"MLP 101: The Basics of Master Limited Partnerships"
Discussed by:
Mary S. Lyman
Executive Director, National Association of Publicly Traded Partnerships
Master limited partnerships (MLPs) are becoming increasingly popular with investors who are looking for reliable income with a potential for growth. MLPs, which are partnerships that are traded on stock exchanges, operate mostly in energy-related businesses. They are particularly active in building and maintaining energy infrastructure: the pipelines, processing plants, storage terminals, and other facilities that help oil and gas get from the places they are produced to the places they are consumed. While MLPs can be a very attractive investment, it is important for investors to understand them before getting in, as they come with some complexities. Mary Lyman, executive director of the trade association for MLPs, will explain what MLPs are, how they work, and the pros and cons of being an MLP investor.
