The AAII Milwaukee Chapter presents...

"Efficient Portfolio Selection and How It Applies to the Milwaukee AAII"

    Discussed by:

    Gil Adams
    AAII Member, Chicago Chapter

If you were to craft the perfect investment, you would probably want its attributes to include high returns coupled with low risk. The reality, of course, is that this kind of investment is next to impossible to find. Not surprisingly, people spend a lot of time developing methods and strategies that come close to the “perfect investment.” But none is as popular, or as compelling, as modern portfolio theory (MPT). Gil will give a brief history and explanation of MPT. He will evaluate portfolios under three different sets of assumptions: equal weightings, long only positions with unequal weightings and long/short positions with unequal weightings. The expected returns can vary from mild to wild.

Attend This Meeting and Learn...
About the benefits, detriments and weaknesses of modern portfolio theory
To understand the two measures of performance and how they interact: mean & volatility
About the differences of systematic and unsystematic risk
