The AAII San Francisco Chapter presents...

Time to Be Offensive, Defensive or Both?

    Discussed by:

    Ken Winans

The current economic and investment environment resembles the past 100 years, and the government will use nearly identical fiscal and monetary policies to deal with these current conditions as it has in the past. Most investors lack sufficient knowledge about economic and investment history, which causes us to frequently repeat the same financial mistakes as past investors on the premise that, “It’s different this time!” Several time-tested technical indicators will be shown to be useful tools in both market and investment research because they can be used to identify the direction of current investment trends, as well as early changes in the market conditions of stocks, REITs, bonds and commodities. Ken Winans will provide an overview on the performance of common stocks, preferred stocks, real estate and corporate bonds since 1900, and examine the best and worst bear markets during this period. Learn how to use Ken’s practical, time-tested financial navigation tools to detect early changes in investment trends, and how awareness of financial history is an important tool in your investing.

What the Past 24 Years Taught Us and Where We Might Be Heading

    Discussed by:
    Nate Pile
    Founder and Publisher, Nate’s Notes

Nate Pile will discuss his insights about the market, the financial publishing industry and investing as his career has unfolded over the past 24 years. From his first experience with a “bubble” during the great biotech bull market from 1989-1991 through to today’s computer-driven market, Nate will discuss some of his best and worst calls, as he outlines a few of the more valuable lessons he’s learned that have helped his newsletter outperform the market since its inception. Nate’s Notes is a monthly investment newsletter focused on helping individual investors grow their wealth in the stock market via a sensible, long-term approach to investing. The Hulbert Financial Digest, the standard for independent real performance evaluation of more than 180 investment newsletters, consistently shows Nate’s Notes ranked among the top-performing newsletters in the country, periodically giving it very top honors as the No. 1 performing newsletter in the country. Nate will share his current thoughts on the overall market and discuss a few of his top picks and provide the rationale available in his publication, based on both quantitative and qualitative indicators, on why you should invest in each position he recommends.
