The AAII Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter presents...

"The New World of Estate Planning, Post-2012"

    Discussed by:

    Marjorie J. Stephens
    Law Offices of Marjorie Stephens

The new tax law has repealed the estate tax for more than 99.8% of the people in the United States. The new law has also given couples the ability, in most cases, to use the tax exemption of the spouse who predeceased them. These changes, coupled with higher income taxes on trusts, have changed the way we provide for our families. Trusts are still effective in many ways, but we need to reconsider what we want in our plans. The most important tax consideration for most plans will be minimizing the income tax. In this presentation, Marjorie Stephens will explain estate planning topics such as why you may want to file an estate tax return even if you owe no tax, why you may still want a trust (even if you don’t like the one you may already have) and why income tax is more important than estate tax.
