Grisbi is a personal accounting software program that runs on Linux and Windows. Grisbi can manage several accounts, users and even currencies.

When the program is downloaded, it walks first-time users through a simple setup process. Users have the option to create new accounts or import QIF files. Users can also add several different account types, a scheduler, payees, categories, budgetary lines and reports.

Once accounts are set up, the next step is adding scheduled payments. This is helpful if you have fixed expenses that you pay each month, such as rent or Internet/cable bills. If an expense isn’t  recurring, it can be added as a one-time charge as well. Users can categorize expenses, so they can track where their money goes each month. Grisbi provides several categories, but users can add their own as well.

When reports are created, there are several different templates to choose from, including current month incomes and outgoings, past month reports and many more. The report will ask you specifically what information you want included in it, as well as how you want the data organized and displayed.

Aside from the budgeting capabilities, Grisbi is very customizable. This includes the appearance of the program, such as fonts, as well as list behavior, sorting methods and more. This free download is beneficial for individuals who want to keep track of their spending using an organized and thorough program.
