RapidSP is a forex, futures, stocks and commodities day/swing trading simulator that uses real tick data and allows simulated tick-by-tick trading. The program allows you to trade at your own pace and find out the results of the trade shortly after. This kind of approach is important for traders who prefer to “paper-trade,” or simulate the results of a possible trade, before risking their own money in the markets. RapidSP includes a year’s worth of tick data.
When you first open the program, it will direct you to a website where you answer a couple questions and receive a three-digit code. This step requires no payment. Next, you begin to set up RapidSP by setting up parameters that can only be set at the beginning of a trading day. This includes commission fees, exchange rates and other information about your trading style. RapidSP is designed to let investors run day/swing trading simulations at a speed of their choice in order to gain experience. The program does not support real-time data. The data it uses is captured in the U.S. Eastern time zone, 24 hours a day.
On the right-hand side of the program is a control panel. By clicking play on it, several different charts will appear on your screen. Users can choose the speed of the chart displays and press pause in order to “pause the market.” From there you can place orders to buy or sell as you would a regular equity.
RapidSP has a wide variety of technical indicators to use when entering trade simulations, including oscillators, moving averages, line studies and price studies. Users can pick the indicators they want to use as well as colors and other settings.
If you purchase the program, the tick data is downloadable for free. Data is updated every one to two months. The tick data can be exported through the purchased version of the program in a tick or one-minute CSV format. There is a demo video available on the website that shows users how to unzip data files and import them to the RapidSP simulator.
