For the past nine years, we have used AAII.com to poll members on their experiences with and expectations and opinions of on-line brokerage firms. Members can indicate features that are important to them when selecting a broker as well as their level of satisfaction with their current broker. We encourage all of our readers to take a moment to fill out the brokerage survey on our Web site. All of our surveys are accessible within the Investor Surveys area of the AAII Web site (www.aaii.com/membersurveys).
On-Line Discount Broker Survey Area
The main page of the On-Line Discount Broker Survey area of our Web site provides you with links to take the survey and view results in several ways: the most recent weekly results, the 2005 summary of survey responses, and a listing of the most popular brokers based on last years results.
When you click on the Take the Survey, you will be asked to answer the following questions:
- What discount brokerage firm do you use for placing trades?
- What led you to choose this broker?
- How often do you place trades with this broker?
- What types of securities do you usually trade with this broker?
- How would you rate the quality of your trade executions with this broker?
- How satisfied are you with the brokers reliability in terms of gaining access when you need it? and
- How do you rate your overall satisfaction with this broker?

Survey Results
The results of the survey are tabulated on a weekly basis and posted to the Web site each Wednesday. In addition, you can see the latest year-end results published in the January/February issue of Computerized Investing.
Annual Broker Comparison
At the beginning of each year, Computerized Investing features comprehensive comparisons of on-line discount brokers, with the AAII Journal reporting on all discount brokers in its February issue. Last years CI article contained a side-by-side comparison of over 40 on-line discount brokers with information to help you choose the broker that is right for you. Comparison data includes commission rates, securities traded, types of orders place on-line, alternatives to Internet trading, Web-based research, and additional portfolio data.
