Portfolio Management Area
AAIIs portfolio management area is an educational resource for members interested in asset allocation and portfolio building.
Articles include topics such as rebalancing, performance calculations, achieving an appropriate asset allocation, dealing with various market conditions, risk management, investing psychology and more.
The Portfolio Observer is a unique tool that reports on the historical performance of a variety of diversification and allocation strategies. Three allocation types (aggressive, moderate and conservative) reflect the varying investment horizons and risk profiles of investors. Each allocation strategy is assigned an asset breakdown, and representative benchmarks are displayed for each investing category. The performances of these representative benchmarks are updated monthly and are combined to generate hypothetical performance data for each allocation strategy. The breakdowns and performance results are displayed in tables and charts.

A stepping-off point and summary of performance for the model portfolios is found at the Intro to Portfolios link in the Portfolios section of the home page.
Shadow Stock Portfolio
AAIIs Model Shadow Stock Portfolio reflects Founder and Chairman Jim Cloonans investing philosophy, which holds that: The best stocks for individual investors are not the same stocks that are best for institutions; the best returns come from giving major consideration to risk; and success comes more from concern for the overall portfolio than for individual stocks.
The Shadow Stock Portfolio is updated on a quarterly basis with buys and sells. Performance data is updated monthly and statistics on current holdings are updated intraday. Articles about the portfolio, the buy and sell rules, a list of current holdings and performance as well as a list of companies currently meeting the purchase rules, are available at the Shadow Stock Portfolio area of the Portfolios section.
Mutual Fund Portfolio
The Model Mutual Fund Portfolio illustrates an approach to mutual fund selection that follows the same philosophy as the Shadow Stock Portfolio. The emphasis is on consistency, risk control, and the selection of funds that follow approaches that an individual investor, rather than an institution, should follow.
Mutual funds holdings are updated twice per year and performance and fund statistics are updated monthly. To view a list of current holdings, see performance data, read about the portfolio selection rules and review transaction history, choose Mutual Fund Portfolio from the Portfolios section of the home page.
Model ETF Portfolio
The newest addition to AAIIs group of model portfolios is the Model ETF Portfolio. This experimental portfolio combines exchange-traded funds with the goal of providing effective risk reduction through diversification.
Holdings for the ETF portfolio are updated twice per year and performance data is updated monthly. To learn more about the Model ETF Portfolio, choose ETF Portfolio from the Portfolios section.
