Over the last several months that I have been providing these product reviews, I am usually on the lookout for gadgets with some “wow” factor. It seems that these days, gadget makers are constantly trying to out do each other in terms of offering the latest bleeding-edge technology. It seems rare these days to find a piece of technology that grips us for its utter simplicity. Fortunately, I was fortunate enough to run across just that with the Agent 18 StandHear travel stand. Agent 18 is perhaps best known for its cases for Apple iPods, iPhones, and iPads. This unassuming little device can make a train or plane ride much more enjoyable by allowing hands-free viewing of video and audio sharing from your iPhone, iPod, Blackberry Storm, or Palm Pre.
Very Small, Highly Functional
The StandHear is roughly 3” square, a half-inch thick, and weighs less than three ounces, making it very easy to pack for a trip. Flip open the StandHear and you have the backrest for propping up your handheld device for hands-free viewing of video or documents. The “kick-stand” allows you to adjust the angle for optimal viewing.
The StandHear also has a built-in headphone splitter, which allows you to share your favorite movie with a friend without disturbing those around you. Even better, the splitter offers true-stereo sound to both listeners.
Once you are done, simply fold up the StandHear and it fits in your pocket, purse, or carry-on.
At $24.95, the StandHear is a worthwhile travel accessory. If I had one complaint, it is not big enough to handle my iPad. However, I have a feeling that we will be seeing an iPad version in the future.
