While it is possible to pull up financial websites on your mobile device, the formatting isn’t always optimized for the smaller screens. This is where dedicated apps come into play, which allow you to access content from a website in a format designed specifically for a mobile device. This week we look at one of these apps—CNNMoney for iOS. CNNMoney is one of the leaders in business and financial news and its free mobile app brings breaking news, personalized content, and full text articles to your iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

News

The app’s default “landing page” is dominated by news. Here you will find the latest economic and financial news from CNNMoney. In addition, you can choose editorial content from several categories, including real estate, small business, technology and personal finance. Tapping on a news headline gives you the full-text article. A nice feature when viewing an article is the ability to increase or reduce the font size. You can also save articles and share them via email and Twitter.

My Stocks

The CNNMoney app also tracks your favorite stocks, providing the dollar and percentage change for the current trading day and a detailed quote and intraday chart when you tap on a company from the My Stocks list. The app comes with a default listing of stocks that you can modify to suit your own preferences. The only issue here is that you cannot modify the time period of the chart (to daily, weekly or monthly), nor can you apply any technical indicators.
