Welcome to the new Computerized Investing quarterly edition! A couple of months ago, I alerted readers to changes that were going to be taking place with the CI subscription. The biggest of these are that we altered our print schedule and expanded each print issue of CI with more pages and more regular columns, and we added exclusive on-line content. These changes allow us to provide our readers with more in-depth and useful information on a more frequent basis. Subscribers will now receive larger quarterly issues of CI, plus eight on-line exclusives throughout the year.

As you flip through the pages of this issue, you will see that we have expanded familiar areas, including New Products and Quicktakes. You will also find new columns that will be mainstays of futures issues of CI. These new columns include the Spreadsheet Corner, which will focus on investment analysis techniques using one of the original computerized analysis tools. Other columns will be devoted to fundamental and technical investment analysis and resources related to those pursuits.

As always, each issue of Computerized Investing will include one of our popular comparison articles, which focus on a segment of investment software or Web sites and highlight several offerings in that category. However, based on much reader feedback over the years, we will cover only the very “best of the best” in the quarterly publications. In this issue, Cara Scatizzi reviews her top picks among mutual fund screening services. For those interested in more comprehensive coverage, we will also offer expanded comparisons at the Computerized Investing Web site.

Going forward, you should expect to receive your quarterly issues of CI in January, April, July, and October.

To accompany our new quarterly production schedule, we will also be providing exclusive on-line features on our Web site. We hope you have already enjoyed the first two On-Line Exclusives—the value stock picking approach of “super investor” Walter Schloss in May and Jordan Kimmel’s growth, momentum, and value-oriented MAGNET stock selection process in June. You can look forward to eight On-Line Exclusive articles each year, one in each month when we do not publish a quarterly issue. These articles are highlighted in an “enhanced” Computerized Investing E-Newsletter, which is sent out every other week. To avoid missing out on these on-line exclusives, you will want to make sure that we have a current E-mail address for you on file. You can manage your subscription information yourself by logging on to the AAII Web site and going to the “My Account” area. Alternatively, you can contact our Member Services Department at

Overall, the changes we are making will provide you with even more unique content than in the past. I have been very pleased with the strong positive response we have received thus far from our readers. As always, we welcome your comments and suggestions. You can contact us at
