eIBD for iPad

On a seemingly daily basis, some news article or media outlet proclaims “print is dead.” To confront this supposed reality, more and more periodicals are porting their content to electronic forms to be read online or on a variety of mobile devices like Kindles, iPads and other tablets.
One of these is Investor’s Business Daily (IBD), the financial newspaper started by William O’Neil. For several years, IBD has offered an electronic subscription giving readers online access to the publication's content and additional research tools and data. Last year, IBD launched a free iPad app allowing subscribers to download the daily newspaper to their device.

After downloading the app from iTunes, you log in with your IBS account information. Once you are logged in, the app downloads the latest issue of Investor’s Business Daily. Connected to my home Wi-Fi, I downloaded the latest issue to my iPad in less than 30 seconds. You can also download the previous 14 issues in their entirety.
The eIBD app’s primary purpose is providing electronic access to the IBD newspaper. At the top right of the viewing pane are a series of menu icons. The search function allows you to search the “active” issue of IBD for keywords and tickers. The app will then provide you with a list of terms matching your search. By tapping on a listing, you are taken to where the searched term appears in the issue.
The Sections menu allows you to go directly to a specific section, instead of having to browse the entire issue.
There is also a Tabs option that presents all of the sections of IBD running across the top. By tapping on a given tab, the app takes to you that section of the active issue.
As you are reading the electronic issue of IBD, you can double-tap on an article to bring it into full-screen view. From this view, you can adjust its font size, as well as share the article via email, Facebook or Twitter.
Beyond providing the latest issue of IBD, the app does have some interactive features that will enhance your viewing experience. If you run across a ticker while reading the electronic version of IBD, you can tap on it to get a pop-up window with a brief description of the company, a mini stock chart, its IBD Composite rating and more.
Overall, this is a convenient app for IBD subscribers looking for a easy-to-navigate way to read the newspaper in electronic format. An added bonus is the ability to access 14 back issues.

I think this app is terrible. If one accesses the WSJ, the FT or any other subscription based new paper or stock service, the app is maximized for the IPAD. EIBD is NOT. You get a replication of the front page which is illegible until one zooms in on a particular article. Terrible. Waste of Time. Lousy app. Lots of room for improvement.

Mr. Whitehead, we deleted your comments due to the language. However, to your point, it is more difficult for developers to write apps for the Android OS because of the market's fragmented nature. I have run across Android apps that will only run on my Samsung Galaxy Tab or Motorola XOOM, both, or neither one.

Great app -This is the best app I have used for reading material.
You can navigate anywhere in the paper from the header.
Simply tap the piece you wish to read and it is magnified,brought
forward and becomes brighter. Tap again and the piece is reduced
again. I now prefer to read IBD via the IPAD app instead of the paper!
