Favorite Features of the New Site

If you haven’t looked yet, AAII.com is sporting a new look. The site has been completely redesigned with more power, more articles, and a better navigation system. In the last issue of Computerized Investing, we gave an overview of the new features, touching on the main areas of the site. Here, we continue the discussion by delving into some of the helpful new functions that may have escaped your notice.

AAII Journal Topic Archive

A first for AAII.com, the AAII Journal area now offers an archive of articles by topic. A list of topics is found at the Journal home page (www.aaii.com/journal) on the lower-right side.

Click on any topic to bring up a list of articles for the last several years, with the most recent articles first. This provides an easy way to find an article when you don’t know the title or issue date.

Topics include: Financial Planning, Portfolio Strategies, Bonds, Investor Professor, and Beginning Investor, as well as the columns covering popular features such as Stock Screens, AAII Model Portfolios, and The First Cut screens.

Past AAII Journal Indexes

Alternatively, members have asked to see a list of all articles that appeared in a particular year.

You can now do this by clicking on Index of Articles from the upper-right side of the AAII Journal home page (www.aaii.com/journal). The main page shows the index of articles so far for the current year—2010, in this case.

You can also bring up the full index of articles for the last three years. Articles are listed by topic, with the most recent ones first.

Improved Navigation

We’ve made navigation through the website more intuitive so that finding what you need will be speedier. The clickable topic headings running across the upper part of the home page is an obvious example.

One that might be less noticeable is in the redesign of our AAII Model Portfolios pages. When you enter the Model Shadow Stock Portfolio, Model Mutual Fund Portfolio or Model ETF Portfolio pages, check out the

Getting Started area running down the right side. You’ll see a list of resources that can point you in the right direction—whether you are new to the model portfolios and want to understand how to use them, or are looking for more in-depth information (such as a history of portfolio transactions).

Another improvement is the placement of a Member Benefits heading on the main navigation bar at the home page. Though you may not think you need to click through to this page, you are sure to be surprised by the wealth of benefits that you are entitled to as an AAII member. Because there may be something we offer that you didn’t even know you wanted, we felt it would be helpful to give this list a more prominent spot on our website.
