The U.S. Social Security Administration’s official Web site (www.ssa.gov) is designed to help citizens navigate the complicated Social Security and Medicare systems. The homepage provides a number of quick links to check the status of an application, estimate retirement benefits, report fraud, find a local social security office and more. The site also allows you to apply for Medicare and disability benefits as well as a new Social Security card.
The remainder of the site is broken into five areas: Retirement, Survivors, Disability, Supplemental Security Income and Medicare. Each section provides answers to frequently asked questions, the option to apply for benefits, a discussion of the basics and contact information for further questions. For example, the Retirement area provides information on planning for your retirement, tools to calculate and apply for benefits, and tips for those already receiving benefits.
