Flair Finance

Flair Finance is a personal financial management program with an intuitive user interface that can assist you in tracking your income and expenses. Unlike the vast majority of personal finance programs, Flair Finance is a cross-application program and can run on both Mac and Windows operating systems.

Start by creating accounts for each of your bank accounts and credit cards. Flair Finance allows you to create up to seven accounts. Although we did not find this restricting, a maximum of seven separate accounts could be an issue for some users. To create an account, click on the Plus icon at the top left of the program window and select a name, the initial balance and your currency.

There are two main transaction categories in Flair Finance: income and expenses. The next step is to create sub-categories within these categories. To do so, simply click on either "income" or "expenses" and select Add. Each transaction you enter will be assigned to one of these sub-categories.

In order to accurately track your income and expenses, you must accurately input your transactions. Select one of the sub-categories that you have created and click on Add to add transactions. Be sure to add both income and expenses in the appropriate categories. A family member can also be assigned for each transaction. At the top of the program, click on the Family icon to add family members to the program.

Flair Finance can also handle money transfers from one account to another. Select the Tools menu and click Transfer. In the window that appears, fill out the appropriate data and the program will track your transfers of money through various accounts.

Click on the Reports icon at the top of the page to run a report on any account. The report will detail your income and expenses for the time period that you select (including day, week, month, quarter and year). In addition, the income and expenses are broken down by categories that you provide. The more specific you are with your categories, the more specific the program will be in its reports.

There is also a simple budgeting tool provided by the program. You are able to set budgets for individual categories and separate family members. A green progress bar at the top depicts how close you are to exceeding set budgets.
