AAII is continuously releasing new data and articles aimed at helping members make better and more educated investment decisions. Furthermore, AAII.com is constantly being updated with new content. To keep informed of what’s new, AAII.com offers members a blog, a publishing calendar and RSS feeds.
To navigate to the AAII Blog, simply click on the AAII Blog tab at the very top left of the AAII.com home page, right next to the AAII.com tab. Posts are made on a daily basis to keep members up to date with all of our offerings. In addition, a quick description and a link to the article or updated Web page are provided for each blog post. The blog posts cover all of AAII.com’s site areas, including Computerized Investing, Stock Superstars Report, Dividend Investing, Stock Investor Pro and Local Chapters.
The AAII Blog also allows you to filter the updates by any of our services, such as the AAII Journal, Asset Allocation, Model Portfolios, Stock Screens or any of our separate offerings. This makes it simple for you to stay up-to-date with the areas of the AAII website that interest you the most. In addition, an archive of blog posts grouped by month is available on the right-hand side of the website.
An RSS feed has also been created for the AAII Blog. Upon subscribing to the feed, updates to the AAII Blog will be automatically sent to your desktop or Web-based RSS reader.
The chart in Figure 2 shows the Publishing Calendar available on AAII.com. This details the print and Web investment education that AAII publishes on a regular basis. The calendar can be found by clicking on Publishing Calendar in the Member Benefits tab.
The calendar shows the schedule of our most highly anticipated offerings—the AAII Journal, Model Portfolio Updates, Annual Tax Planning Guide, Top Funds Guide and Stock Screens update, just to name a few. The calendar also provides a link to the online version of each offering.
In addition to an RSS feed for the AAII Blog, RSS feeds are also available to notify you of updates posted to the Model Portfolios, Stock Screens, AAII Journal, and Sentiment Survey areas of our website, as well as to premium areas such as Stock Investor Pro and Computerized Investing (Figure 3). In order to subscribe to an RSS feed, please visit www.aaii.com/rss.
There are several ways to access AAII’s RSS feeds. If you have an email account with Yahoo!, AOL or Google, you can easily add the feed to your customized home page. If you do not have an account with any of these sites, you can create one for free. To add the feed, simply go to www.aaii.com/rss, click on your chosen Web portal, then follow the prompts. You can usually move the feed box anywhere on your home page.
For other ways to subscribe, click on the orange icon in the RSS Format column next to the name of the feed you would like to receive.
To create your own customized page for receiving feeds, you can download a dedicated RSS reader; the choices are listed in a drop-down box. These RSS readers run on your desktop and act like common email software.
Newer versions of the Web browsers Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari have built-in RSS readers; you can add a “live bookmark” to your Favorites list by clicking on the View Feed XML button after selecting the orange RSS format icon.
In Case You Missed It: Recent Online Exclusive
A new CI Online Exclusive was posted to the Computerized Investing website since the last quarterly issue.
In May 2012, Wayne A. Thorp, CFA, and John Bajkowski authored the article “Tracking the Analysts.” Earnings play a key role in valuing stocks, and even slight changes in expectations for future earnings or the projected earnings growth rate can have a significant impact on a stock’s price. Tracking these expectations, and their changes, is an important and potentially rewarding strategy for stock investors. The article was written to help individual investors use earnings estimates to make sound investment decisions.
