Tracking cost basis and capital gains of investment holdings is an arduous task for individual investors. In April of 2008, AAII uploaded MyGains to the Download Library. MyGains is a program that automatically downloads trades from a number of online brokerages and calculates capital gains based on downloaded brokerage figures.

MyGains comes in three versions: Free, Basic and Deluxe. Each of these three versions will automatically download your trades. In addition, the program can generate a Schedule D for tax purposes. The free version will only allow users to have one capital gains file and 50 trades per file. Option support is not available, but you are able to export gains to tax software. The basic version allows for unlimited capital gains files and 600 trades per file, but it still does not support options. The deluxe version offers unlimited capital gains files and unlimited trades and provides support for options.

A new version of MyGains (3.0.3) has been uploaded to the Download Library.

I've downloaded the program 3 times and each time I get a message about "file corrupted, download again".

I'm running Windows 7 on a Compaq CQ60.

I bought the deluxe. I wasted the $69. Can't see any of my data in the package. I can export a Comma Separated file and open in Excel, but it doesn't give me anymore utility than downloading from the brokerage firm and cleanning up the files.
