Pageonce—Money & Bills

Previously we have reviewed Pageonce—Money & Bills for both iOS and Android. At the time of the review, there were free and premium versions of the app for both operating systems. Recently, we discovered that the premium versions have been done away with and that the free versions have been beefed up to include some of the “premium” features. There is now a monthly Gold subscription that costs $4.99; it allows you to pay your bills directly from the app, instead of using the Pageonce website, and does away with on-screen ads. For this review we used Pageonce—Money & Bills on an iPad 2.
Tracking Online Accounts
With Pageonce you can track dozens of online accounts—banking, credit card, investment, rental car, frequent flyer, mobile phone, and even Netflix. Pageonce supports a number of banks, including Bank of America, Capital One, Chase, Citi, Wells Fargo and many more. The app also supports most major credit cards: American Express, Capital One, Citi, Discover and more. Furthermore, you can monitor retail credit cards from such stores as Best Buy, Gap, Macy’s, Sears, Shell Gas and Wal-Mart. Given its breadth of coverage, it is no surprise that Pageonce considers itself the largest mobile personal finance service in the country.
You can actually track your accounts via the Pageonce—Money & Bills app and the Pageonce website. This cross-functionality is useful if you are somewhere without your mobile device yet still want to keep an eye on your accounts (provided you have Web access).
Pageonce will automatically update your accounts once a day, but you also have the option of manually refreshing your accounts from within the app or from the website.
With the Pageonce app you can generate a number of reports that show you exactly where your money is going. You have three types of charts from which to choose: pie charts that show all of your bills and debts by type; bar graphs of individual monthly bills for comparing how much you spend month to month; and a complete transactions list across all accounts.
Budgeting
Beyond being able to monitor and track your online accounts, Pageonce offers a snapshot of your overall financial condition. This, in turn, allows you to see how much you owe and to better budget your money. With the app’s transactions history you can track when bills are due and their amounts. You can also set up push notifications and email alerts for when bills are due, when your bank account drops below a certain level or when you become overdrawn on an account.
Bill Pay
If you want the convenience of paying bills directly from the Pageonce app, there is a Gold subscription that costs $4.99 a month. It also does away with the banner ads at the bottom of the screen. Pageonce has recently added the ability to pay bills with a credit card along with a checking account. It is questionable whether these features are worth $4.99 a month, since many banks allow you to pay bills through their websites at no cost.
Security
When it comes to our financial information, security is paramount. To ease those fears, Pageonce claims to use bank-level security in order to safeguard your sensitive information. To this end, the app does not have you enter account numbers or your Social Security number. While you are entering the same user names and passwords you would use to access your accounts directly from an institution’s website, there is no identifying account information being transmitted that could compromise your information’s integrity.
Overall
Pageonce is one of the best apps available for keeping tabs on your online accounts in one place and monitoring your financial situation. It is perfect for looking at a snapshot of current balances, but not for a detailed analysis of financial accounts. We suggest starting out with the free version and deciding later whether the Gold subscription with its bill pay option is worth $4.99 a month.
