AAII.com has continually expanded over the years to provide members with additional financial resources. One of the features offered to members is stock data from quotemedia.com that is comparable to that found on many top investment websites. To navigate to fundamental data for a specific stock, simply enter a ticker symbol in the Enter ticker window at the right-hand side of the AAII home page.
AAII.com loads a detailed quote page for the stock you enter. This page includes the latest price and volume information for the stock, along with key data such as 52-week high and low, dividend rate and yield, earnings per share and price-earnings ratio (Figure 1). A price chart with a customizable date range is shown at the left-hand side of the page. In addition, the bottom of the page presents news items organized by date.
The Depth/LII (level II) tab in the blue menu bar running across the top of the page presents details on recent trade information such as price, size, exchange and the time that the trade was executed. Anytime there is a price change, the trade is highlighted in either red (drop in price) or green (increase in price).
The Historical tab at the far right provides the daily open, high, low, close and volume data for a time range that you choose.
The AAII website also provides useful charting capabilities in this area. Click on Charts in the blue menu bar to pull up a basic price and volume chart for the stock. The time frame of the chart and the chart type can be changed. The time periods offered include intraday through 10 years, and the chart types include line, open-high-low-close, candle and area (Figure 2). A Java chart is also available with the same options.
Click on Interactive and Comparative Charts at the bottom of the charts page to toggle to a chart with more options. Along with additional chart types (such as bar and dot charts) and time frames (such as 20 years), the interactive chart provides a number of other technical charting capabilities. Over 30 indexes (one at a time) along with 10 stocks (together) may be overlaid on the chart.
Upper indicators—ones that are overlaid directly on the price chart—include a multitude of moving averages, Bollinger bands and price channels. Lower indicators, those shown underneath the price chart, include MACD (moving average convergence/divergence), RSI (relative strength index) and momentum.
After you are finished modifying a chart to your liking, your settings can be saved by clicking on Remember Chart Settings at the bottom of the page. The next time you search for a symbol and click Interactive and Comparative Charts, your saved chart settings will be loaded.
The Company tab presents contact information as well as the firm’s sector, industry and sub-industry. The Insiders tab details recent transactions made by executives of the firm.
Financial statement data—income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement—is presented for the last five years annually and for the last five quarters quarterly. In addition, AAII.com presents the income statement and balance sheet in both condensed and expanded forms. The expanded income statement provides data such as gross margin and details on operating costs, providing separate line items for such expenses as advertising. The expanded balance sheet offers a breakdown of inventories and receivables.
The Filings tab provides links to the company’s recent SEC filings, including forms 10-Q, 8-K and 10-K. In addition to providing Web links to these filings, you can download the statements directly from the AAII website in Word and PDF formats. The SEC filings available go back to the beginning of 1994.
Analyst Ratings & Earnings Estimates
AAII.com also provides an aggregate look at the current analyst ratings—important for getting the general investor perception of a stock. The Analyst tab provides the consensus rating of analysts tracked by Zacks Investment Research, as well as the previous average recommendation, change in recommendation and the number of analysts reporting (Figure 3). A further breakdown of the ratings shows the number of analysts that rate the stock on a range from a strong buy through a strong sell. A quick trend table is presented at the bottom of the page, showing current ratings as well as ratings from one, two and three months ago. The website also provides the analyst company rank compared to its industry.
The Earnings tab provides the high, low and mean target prices for the firm. In addition, it provides a target price history table that shows target prices from one, two and three weeks ago. Consensus earnings estimates for the next two fiscal quarters and years are also provided along with the firm’s recent earnings surprises.
