What is a cookie?

A cookie, also known as a web cookie, browser cookie, and HTTP cookie, is a piece of text stored on a user's computer by their web browser. A cookie can be used for authentication, storing site preferences, shopping cart contents, the identifier for a server-based session, or anything else that can be accomplished through storing text data.

How do I enable cookies for my web browser?

Enabling Cookies on Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0, 7.0, and 8.0

  1. Click on Tools, then select Internet Options.
  2. Click on the Privacy tab.
  3. In the Privacy section, under Settings, click on Advanced.
  4. In the Advanced Privacy Settings section, select the checkbox labeled Override Automatic Cookie Handling.
  5. Click OK.
  6. You should be back in the main Privacy sections where you clicked Advanced. Now click on Sites.
  7. In the field labeled Address of Web Site, type in www.aaii.com and then click the Allow button.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Click OK in the main Privacy section to close the Internet Options box.

Enabling Cookies on Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0, 5.5

  1. Select Tools from the taskbar at the top of the browser screen.
  2. From the drop-down menu choose Internet Options.
  3. Click on the Security tab.
  4. Click on the Custom Level button.
  5. Scroll down to the Cookies section.
  6. Make sure that Enable is selected under both "Allow cookies that are stored on your computer" and "Allow per-session cookies (not stored)."
  7. Click OK.

Enabling Cookies on Internet Explorer 4.x

  1. Select Tools from the taskbar at the top of the browser screen.
  2. From the drop-down menu choose Internet Options.
  3. Click the Advanced tab.
  4. Go down to the Cookies section.
  5. Click Always Accept Cookies.
  6. Click OK .
  7. Click Apply to apply the change.
  8. Click OK to close the Internet Options window.

Enabling Cookies on Firefox 3.0

  1. Select Tools menu at the top of the browser screen.
  2. From the drop-down menu choose Options.
  3. When the Options box appears, click on the Privacy tab.
  4. The checkbox next to "Accept cookies from sites" can be left unchecked if you prefer, but AAII.com will still need to be added as an exception. Click on the "Exceptions" button.

    Note: If you do prefer to have the "Allow web sites to set cookies" check box selected, we also recommend that you untick the checkbox just to the left of where it says "Accept third-party cookies."

  5. Near the top of the Exceptions box, type in "aaii.com" in the field labeled "Address of web site." ("www" is not required.)
  6. After typing in aaii.com, you will now notice that the buttons just below that field are no longer grayed out and are now clickable. Click the "Allow" button. You should see aaii.com and the word Allow added to the site/status box. Click "OK" to close the Exceptions box.
  7. Click OK to close the Options box.

Enabling Cookies on Firefox 1.0, 2.0

  1. Select Tools menu at the top of the browser screen.
  2. From the drop-down menu choose Options.
  3. When the Options box appears, click on the Privacy button in the left column.
  4. Find "Cookies" in the list of items and click on the plus sign [+] next to Cookies to expand and display the Cookies settings.
  5. The checkbox next to "Allow sites to set cookies" can be left unchecked if you prefer, but AAII.com will still need to be added as an exception. Click on the "Exceptions" button.

    Note: If you do prefer to have the "Allow web sites to set cookies" check box selected, we also recommend that you select the checkbox just below it where it says "From the originating web site only."

  6. Near the top of the Exceptions box, type in "aaii.com" in the field labeled "Address of web site." ("www" is not required.)

Enabling Cookies on Netscape 9

  2. From the drop-down menu choose Options.
  3. When the Options box appears, click on the Privacy.
  4. From the Cookies section, click to select Accept cookies from sites.
  5. Click OK to close the Options box.

Enabling Cookies on Netscape 8

  1. Select Tools menu at the top of the browser screen.
  2. From the drop-down menu choose Options.
  3. When the Options box appears, click on the Site Controls button in the left column.
  4. Under the section labeled "Web Features" select the checkbox next to "Allow cookies" so that a checkmark appears (if it is currently unselected).
  5. Click OK to close the Options box.

Enabling Cookies on Netscape 6.x - 7.x

  1. Select Edit from the taskbar at the top of the browser screen.
  2. From the drop-down menu choose Preferences.
  3. On the Category menu on the left, click on on the arrow next to Advanced.
  4. Then, click on Privacy and Security. A drop-down menu appears from which you select Cookies. Make sure that the radio button next to Enable all cookies is selected.
  5. Click on OK at the bottom.

Enabling Cookies on Netscape Communicator / Navigator 4.x

NOTE: Since the 4.x versions of Netscape Communicator / Navigator are no longer compliant to current Web coding standards, we strongly suggest that you upgrade your Netscape browser to the most current version by going to www.netscape.com. You can find a link to the lastest browser in the left navigation bar under the "Tools" section.

  1. Close the Netscape browser.
  2. Click the Windows Start button, and select Search (or Find).
  3. Select Files or Folders.
  4. Search for cookie*.* on the local hard drive to find all cookie.txt or cookies.txt files.
  5. Delete these files.
  6. Close and relaunch your browser.

Enabling Cookies on America Online 9.0

  1. From the AOL Toolbar, select Settings.
  2. Select Internet [Web] Options.
  3. Select Use your Internet Explorer Settings to set advanced browser options.
  4. Select the Privacy tab
  5. Select Advanced
  6. Deselect override automatic cookie handling button
  7. Click OK to exit.

Enabling Cookies on America Online 8.0, 7.0 with IE 6.x

  1. From the AOL Toolbar, select Settings.
  2. Select Preferences
  3. Select Internet Properties (WWW)
  4. Select the Privacy tab
  5. Select Advanced
  6. Deselect override automatic cookie handling button
  7. Click OK to exit.

Enabling Cookies on America Online 7.0 with IE 5.5

  1. From the AOL Toolbar, select Settings.
  2. Select Preferences
  3. Select Internet Properties (WWW)
  4. Select the Security tab
  5. Select the Custom Level tab
  6. Under "Allow Cookies that are stored on your computer" click "Enable"
  7. Under "Allow per-session cookies (not stored)" click "Enable"
  8. Select OK, Yes you want to save the settings

Enabling Cookies on Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x for Mac (OS X)

  1. Click Explorer then select the Preferences submenu from the Internet Explorer top menu bar.
  2. In the menu on the left under Receiving Files choose the Cookies menu item.
  3. In the drop-down menu next to When Receiving Cookies select the option Never Ask.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Close and relaunch your browser.

Enabling Cookies on Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x for Mac (OS 9)

  1. Choose Preferences from the main Edit menu.
  2. In the Category box (on the left) select Cookies under the Receiving Files heading.
  3. Select the Never Ask option from the drop-down menu
  4. Click OK.

Enabling Cookies on Safari 3.2 (Windows/OS X)

  1. Choose Edit from the top menu bar, then select Preferences.
  2. Click the Security tab.
  3. Verify that either "Always" or "Only from sites you navigate to" is selected to the right of the words "Accept cookies:".
  4. Click OK.
  5. Close and relaunch your browser.

How do I delete cookies stored in my web browser?

More than likely, the login information stored in your cookie file is different from what you used to log in. Thus, all AAII.com cookies will need to be deleted. Once your cookie file is deleted from your hard drive, your browser will then be free of any conflicting login names and passwords.

Deleting Cookies on Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0, 7.0, and 8.0

  1. Start Internet Explorer.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and then click the General tab.
  3. In the Temporary Internet Files section, click Settings.
  4. Click View Files.
  5. On the View menu, click Details.
  6. Click the Internet Address column header, and then locate the Internet address of the cookie file. For example, a cookie Internet address may be named something similar to the following name: Cookie: username@www.aaii.com OR Cookie: username@aaii.com
  7. Click a cookie file, and then press DELETE. If you are prompted to confirm that you want to delete the file, click Yes. Repeat this step for each AAII cookie file.

Deleting Cookies on Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0, 5.5

  1. Start Internet Explorer.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and then click the General tab.
  3. In the Temporary Internet Files section, click Settings.
  4. Click View Files.
  5. On the View menu, click Details.
  6. Click the Internet Address column header, and then locate the Internet address of the cookie file. For example, a cookie Internet address may be named something similar to the following name: Cookie: username@www.aaii.com OR Cookie: username@aaii.com
  7. Click a cookie file, and then press DELETE. If you are prompted to confirm that you want to delete the file, click Yes. Repeat this step for each AAII cookie file.

Deleting Cookies on Internet Explorer 4.x

  1. Start Internet Explorer.
  2. On the View menu, click Internet Options, and then click the General tab.
  3. In the Temporary Internet Files section, click Settings.
  4. Click View Files.
  5. On the View menu, click Details.
  6. Click the Internet Address column header, and then locate the Internet address of the cookie file. For example, a cookie Internet address may be named something similar to the following name: Cookie: username@www.aaii.com OR Cookie: username@aaii.com
  7. Click a cookie file, and then press DELETE. If you are prompted to confirm that you want to delete the file, click Yes. Repeat this step for each AAII cookie file.

Deleting Cookies on Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x for Mac (OS X)

  1. Choose Preferences from Explorer menu
  2. Select Receiving Files options
  3. Select Cookies
  4. For each AAII cookie you find, click on the filename once to highlight it and then press the Delete button to remove it from the list. Repeat this step for each AAII cookie file.

Deleting Cookies on Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x for Mac (OS 9)

  1. Choose Preferences from Edit menu
  2. Select Receiving Files options
  3. Select Cookies
  4. For each AAII cookie you find, click on the filename once to highlight it and then press the Delete button to remove it from the list. Repeat this step for each AAII cookie file.

Deleting Cookies on Firefox 3.0

  1. Start Firefox.
  2. Click Tools in the top menu bar.
  3. Under Tools, click on Options.
  4. When the Options box appears, click on the Privacy tab..
  5. Click on the "Show Cookies" button.
  6. Scroll down the list of individual cookies until you see any for www.aaii.com under the Site column. For each aaii.com cookie you find, click once on "www.aaii.com" to highlight it and then click on the "Remove Cookie" button near the bottom.
  7. After all www.aaii.com cookies are deleted, click OK to close the Options box.

Deleting Cookies on Firefox 1.0, 2.0

  1. Start Firefox.
  2. Click Tools in the top menu bar.
  3. Under Tools, click on Options.
  4. When the Options box appears, click on the Privacy button in the left column.
  5. Find "Cookies" in the list of items and click on the plus sign [+] next to Cookies to expand and display the Cookies settings.
  6. Click on the "View cookies" button.
  7. Scroll down the list of individual cookies until you see any for www.aaii.com under the Site column. For each aaii.com cookie you find, click once on "www.aaii.com" to highlight it and then click on the "Remove Cookie" button near the bottom.
  8. After all www.aaii.com cookies are deleted, click OK to close the Options box.

Deleting Cookies on Netscape 8

  1. Start Netscape 8.
  2. Click Tools in the top menu bar.
  3. Under Tools, click on Options.
  4. When the Options box appears, click on the Privacy button in the left column.
  5. Find "Cookies" in the list of items and click on the plus sign [+] next to Cookies to expand and display the Cookies settings.
  6. Click on the "View cookies" button.
  7. Scroll down the list of individual cookies until you see any for www.aaii.com under the Site column. For each aaii.com cookie you find, click once on "www.aaii.com" to highlight it and then click on the "Remove Cookie" button near the bottom.
  8. After all www.aaii.com cookies are deleted, click OK to close the Options box.

Deleting Cookies on Netscape 6.x - 7.x

  1. Start Netscape.
  2. Click Tools on the Netscape menu bar.
  3. Under Tools, highlight Cookie Manager, and select Manage Stored Cookies.
  4. Use the Remove Cookie button to delete each AAII cookie file listed under the Site column that reads either www.aaii.com or aaii.com.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Close and relaunch your browser.

Deleting Cookies on Netscape Communicator / Navigator 4.x

  2. Double click Internet Options
  3. When Internet Properties comes up, click the General tab.
  4. In the Temporary Internet Files section, click Settings.
  5. Click View Files.
  6. On the View menu, click Details.
  7. Click the Internet Address column header, and then locate the Internet address of the cookie file. For example, a cookie Internet address may be named something similar to the following name: Cookie: username@www.aaii.com OR Cookie: username@aaii.com
  8. Click a cookie file, and then press DELETE. If you are prompted to confirm that you want to delete the file, click Yes. Repeat this step for each AAII cookie file.

Deleting Cookies on Safari 3.2 (Windows/Mac)

  1. Choose Edit from the top menu bar, then select Preferences.
  2. Click the Security tab.
  3. Click the Show Cookies button (located about 3/4ths of the way down the dialog box).
  4. In the menu that flies out, type "aaii.com" in the search box, the click Remove All.

    Alternatively, to remove all cookies in your browser, leave the search box empty and just click Remove All.

  5. Verify your selection and close the Preferences window.
  6. Close and relaunch your browser.
