In this month’s AAII Stock Screens column, Wayne A. Thorp describes a stock screening strategy that focuses on companies that have had recent significant earnings revisions (see “How to Profit From Revisions in Analysts’ Earnings Estimates,” starting on page 14). Where on the Web can you get information on recent earnings revisions?

The sites below all provide information on recent earnings revisions in areas of their Web site that are free of charge; one site is devoted exclusively to ADRs, the others cover all stocks listed on U.S. exchanges and NASDAQ.

    AAII.com

    www.aaii.com
Select the AAII Stock Screens link under Portfolios.

Our own Web site includes monthly stock screens, including several Earnings Estimates screens that focus on significant earnings revisions, both upward and downward. In addition, the Dreman With Estimate Revisions screen follows a contrarian approach favored by David Dreman that includes a significant upward earnings revision requirement.

    ADR.com

    www.adr.com
Go to the Estimates section that is listed under each ADR profile.

This Web site only covers the American depositary receipts (ADRs) market (an ADR is a certificate that represents shares of foreign firms, and is traded on a U.S. exchange). In addition to providing information on consensus estimates and recommendations, it also provides the number of earnings estimates that have been raised or lowered from the immediate previous value over the last four weeks.

    CNNMoney

    money.cnn.com
Under Markets & Stocks, go to the Estimates section under each company report.

This is a comprehensive Web site that includes detailed information on consensus estimates, both recent and historical. It also tracks upward and downward earnings revisions over the last week and last month for the current and next fiscal quarter and current and next fiscal year. In addition, under Earnings, you can get a list of daily upward revisions and downward revisions; for a weekly list click on Most Recent Upward Revisions or Most Recent Downward Revisions.

    Reuters

    www.reuters.com
Go to the Stocks section under Investing

This is a comprehensive Web site that includes detailed information on consensus estimates, both recent and historical. It also tracks upward and downward earnings revisions over the last week and last month for the current and next fiscal quarter and current and next fiscal year. Current analyst recommendations and revisions are given as well as those tracking back 13 weeks. In addition, in the Ideas & Screening area of the Investing section, the Reuters Select Screens includes a Rising Expectations screen (listed under Growth Screens) that focuses on recent upward revisions in earnings estimates; the screen is updated daily.

    Zacks Investment Research

    www.zacks.com
Type in a ticker symbol, then go to Company Reports and then to Estimates.

This is a comprehensive Web site that includes detailed information on consensus estimates, both recent and historical. It also tracks upward and downward earnings revisions over the last week and last month for the current and next fiscal quarter and current and next fiscal year. In addition, the Zacks Profit Tracks screens [in the Screening section, or go directly to Profit Tracks] includes a screen that focuses on earnings per share revisions, along with broker ratings and rating changes.
