The AAII Chicago Chapter presents...
Favorite Core Holdings Today: From Two Stock Portfolios That Have Outperformed the Market
Discussed by:
Paul Larson
Editor, Morningstar StockInvestor, Morningstar Inc.
As editor of Morningstar’s flagship stocks newsletter, Morningstar StockInvestor, Paul Larson manages two real-money portfolios. The Tortoise Portfolio holds relatively large and slow-growing companies such as Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.B) and Johnson & Johnson (JNJ), while the Hare Portfolio owns racier fare such as Intuitive Surgical (ISRG) and MasterCard (MA). Since the portfolios’ inceptions in June 2001, the S&P 500 has lost 3.4% of its value, but the Tortoise and Hare have risen 49.9% on a combined basis. The Tortoise has outperformed 99.5% of large-blend mutual funds since inception, while the Hare has outperformed 97.7% of large growth mutual funds. In this presentation, Larson will share what his current favorite opportunities are from within the Tortoise and Hare, as well as what he has on the radar for possible future purchases.
