SI Pro Getting Started

Installing Stock Investor Pro for the First Time

There are two methods of installing Stock Investor Pro: using the monthly CD or using the Program/Data Install file available on AAII.com. If you already have the program installed and wish to make use of the weekly data updates, please refer to the last page of this guide.

   Installing From AAII.com

  1. Go to the Stock Investor Pro Weekly Data Updates page of the Stock Investor Pro area of AAII.com: www.aaii.com/stockinvestor/downloads.
  2. First-time visitors to AAII.com are prompted to log in using all 10 digits of their AAII member number, with no spaces, for both Login Name and Password. Your member number can be found on your Stock Investor Pro or AAII Journal mailing label. If you have saved your Login Name and Password in the past, you will not be prompted to enter this information and will be taken directly to the Stock Investor Pro download area.

  4. Click on the Program/Data Install button (Figure 1) to download the full program and weekly data update file (this is the only data update file we offer that includes the full program). Download the file to your computer, preferably to your desktop, by choosing Save File.
**Please note that the Program/Data Install file is approximately 52MB in size and is intended for download by those using high-speed Internet connections such as cable, DSL, T1, or T3.
  5. When the download process is complete, double-click on the program/data install file (proinstall.exe) on your desktop and select Run. Proceed to “InstallShield Wizard” steps below.

  4. Click on the Install button at the bottom left of the installation menu. Proceed to “InstallShield Wizard” steps below.
   Installing From CD

  1. At the Welcome to Stock Investor Setup window, click Next to continue.
  2. Please read the Stock Investor User Agreement, and then click Yes to continue.
  3. You will be asked to verify the location you want Stock Investor installed on your computer. Click Next to use the default installation location or click the Browse button to specify a different location. You will also be prompted to choose the folder for the program shortcuts within the Windows Start menu (AAII is the default folder). After you have chosen the folder name, click Next to continue.
  4. The final menu window before files are transferred displays a summary of the installation settings you have specified. If you are satisfied with the settings, click Next to start the file transfer process, which could take several minutes.
  5. When the file transfers are complete, you will be asked if you would like a shortcut to Stock Investor Pro placed on your desktop. We recommend selecting Yes to create desktop shortcuts for Stock Investor Pro, Stock Investor Pro Utilities, and the Help System. Otherwise, click No to continue.
  6. You will be prompted to view the ReadMe file, which outlines any changes that have been made to the program since the last release. Click Yes to view the ReadMe file or click No to continue.
  7. When the installation process is complete, click Finish to start Stock Investor Pro. You will see a series of windows as Stock Investor Pro Utilities performs various database management operations.
  8. Lastly, you will be asked if you wish to recalculate the custom fields. We strongly suggest you select Yes; otherwise the custom fields may not reflect the updated data you just installed. When the custom fields are recalculated, Stock Investor Pro will finish opening.
