Biography:
Huaxiong Huang is a full professor at York University in Toronto, regional scientific director of MITACS Inc, and chief scientist of the QWeMA (pronounced KWEE-MA) Group. He has held visiting positions at the University of Tokyo (JSPS Fellow) in Riken, Japan; Shanghai Jiaotong University in China; the University of Canterbury (Erskine Fellow) in New Zealand; and New Jersey Institute of Technology in the U.S. He serves as associate editor for the Journal of Engineering Mathematics and associate editor for Advances in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, and he is managing editor for Mathematics-in-Industry Case Studies. He has published over 60 peer-reviewed articles on the topics of insurance, finance, and mathematical modeling for problems with biological and engineering applications. In the summer of 2007, he was elected a Fellow of the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences. He currently lives in Toronto. He is married and has one daughter. He grew up in Shanghai and was educated at Fudan University and the University of British Columbia.
