Biography:
Prior to co-founding ELM Advisors in 2005, Lorne Abramson spent five years as a portfolio manager and financial advisor at Smith Barney. In the seven years prior to that, he was a principal at Spare, Kaplan, Bischel & Associates, a San Francisco institutional investment advisor.
Abramson has been quoted in Fortune magazine, MarketWatch and various other business news media. He has also presented to CPAs, estate attorneys and other financial advisers on the mechanics of index exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Socially responsible investing (SRI) is both a passion and area of expertise for him. The Journal of Investing has published his quantitative work on the subject, in a study that has been cited in various other publications internationally and was one of 20 key studies reviewed in a joint report published by the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative and Mercer Consulting.
Abramson earned a B.A. from Rutgers College, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude, and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is a Certified Financial Planner and a holder of the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. Abramson is also a member of the CFA Institute, the CFA Society of San Francisco and the Financial Planning Association.
