Sita Slavov

Biography:
Sita Nataraj Slavov is a professor of public policy and the director of the public policy Ph.D. program at George Mason University’s Schar School of Policy and Government. She is also a faculty research fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research and a visiting scholar at the American Enterprise Institute. Before coming to the Schar school, she was a resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, an associate professor at Occidental College, and a senior economist at the Council of Economic Advisers. She received her Ph.D. in economics from Stanford University and her B.A. from the College of William and Mary.

Slavov’s research focuses primarily on public finance and the economics of aging. She has published numerous articles and book chapters on Social Security, retirement, retiree health insurance and health expenditures among older people. Her work has appeared in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Health Economics, the Journal of Public Economics, the Journal of Human Resources, the Review of Economic Studies and the Journal of Public Economic Theory. In addition, she has published many op-eds and blog posts in outlets such as the New York Times Room for Debate, the Los Angeles Times, Real Clear Markets and the U.S. News Economic Intelligence Blog.

Slavov has experience teaching a variety of microeconomics courses, including public finance, game theory, econometrics, behavioral economics and the economics of information. At the Schar school, she teaches U.S. financial policies, processes and procedures; tools for economic policy analysis; economics of aging in the U.S.; and research design for public policy.
