What Are the Hours of the Stock Market?

The U.S. stock market—including the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the Nasdaq Stock Market (Nasdaq)—has regular trading hours between 9:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time on weekdays. On early-closure days, typically right before or right after a market holiday, regular stock trading ends at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

Market holidays are as follows:

- New Year’s Day
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day
- Washington’s Birthday
- Good Friday
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day

Trading can also occur outside of normal stock market hours. On regular trading days, there is also “pre-market” trading, which typically goes from 4:00 a.m. to the market open at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time. There are also “after-hours” sessions, which typically occur between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
