Lord Abbett Core Fixed Income R5 Overview

Lord Abbett Core Fixed Income R5 (LCRTX) is an actively managed Taxable Bond Intermediate Core Bond fund. Lord Abbett launched the fund in 2015.

The investment seeks income and capital appreciation to produce a high total return. The fund pursues its investment objective by investing at least 80% of its net assets, plus the amount of any borrowings for investment purposes, in fixed income securities of various types. The manager expects to invest in derivatives consisting principally of futures, forwards, options, and swaps. It may use derivatives to seek to enhance returns, to attempt to hedge some of its investment risk, to manage portfolio duration, as a substitute for holding the underlying asset on which the derivative instrument is based, or for cash management purposes.

However, for some investment categories, such as small-cap investing, it may be difficult for the manager to fully employ the desired active strategy if assets grow too large or too quickly.

LCRTX Performance and Fees

While it is difficult to predict returns, it is known that high annual expense ratios reduce your rate of return, and excessive fees are difficult to overcome. Active management normally comes with higher expense ratios than passive index management. Certain investment categories such as small company and foreign also normally have higher expense ratios. It is best to compare fund expense ratios against the category averages for meaningful assessments.

Lord Abbett Core Fixed Income R5 has a trailing yield of 4.68%, which is above the 3.97% category average. The fund normally distributes its income monthly.
