Most AAII Local Chapters have special interest groups (SIGs). These are subgroups that meet informally to interactively review investing topics among a small number of participants. Recently, the AAII Cleveland Chapter utilized a collaborative approach to share the tasks of forming and managing an engaging new subgroup.

Lou, a former chapter leader, offered provocative questions and ideas on which to collaborate, as well as connections to educational ventures and think tanks. However, many topics were only discussed in online exchanges.

Lou reached out to Lisa, a young participant who bought her first stock in her teens, and she agreed to provide content for a new social and interactive subgroup open to mature teens and adults. The Cleveland Rich subgroup deals with economics, asset classes, portfolios, articles, videos, questions, comments and critical thinking, airing a single topic during each subgroup meeting.

To set things in motion, other volunteers were needed to assist Lisa with the logistical work. Another chapter SIG leader volunteered to do the back-end work of the in-person-only meetings. These Cleveland Rich subgroup meetings are held in a free public library that is centrally located in the Cleveland-Akron-Lorain metro area.

Collaborations like this between chapter volunteers to build new avenues for exploring investing topics are just one reason to keep tabs on the chapters in your areas of locale and interest.
