Decentralization: What It Is and Why It Matters in Crypto

Think of a traditional bank: Normally, the bank keeps track of all your money, decides who can transfer funds and controls the system. If the bank makes a mistake, shuts down or gets hacked, your money could be at risk.

Decentralization flips that model. Instead of having one central authority, a decentralized system uses thousands of independent computers around the world to keep track of transactions. Everyone in the network can verify what’s happening, so no single person or organization can manipulate it.

For example, the popular digital currency bitcoin relies on this system. It’s like a giant shared ledger that everyone can trust, without needing a bank in the middle.

In short, decentralization means that control is spread out rather than concentrated in one place, making the system more transparent, secure and resistant to failure. For investors, decentralization means participating in a financial ecosystem that is open, global and built for innovation.

Breaking down the fundamentals of crypto, such as the concept of decentralization, really helps investors understand why many see this technology as potentially revolutionary. See the article in this issue on cryptocurrency to learn more.

As far as I can tell, Crypto doesn't have any fundamentals. No income stream (dividends or interest) no real asset ownership. Just pure speculation on what the next person might pay for Crypto in the future. Talk all you want but without fundamentals, conversation is a waste of time.
