AAII Local Chapters Are Growing and Rebuilding Community

AAII local chapters are gaining momentum, but their future depends on your participation.

Across the country, AAII local chapters are strengthening one of the organization’s most important advantages: community-based financial education. Following disruptions during the pandemic, local chapters have been rebuilding participation, leadership and engagement.

Growth is underway, though it is uneven. Some chapters are seeing members return to in-person meetings, while others remain primarily virtual as they rebuild leadership and attendance. Attendance is improving in many areas, though most chapters report participation still below pre-pandemic highs.

Evolving to Meet the Needs of AAII Members

Chapters are evolving in ways shaped by local leadership and resources. The AAII Denver, Milwaukee and St. Louis Chapters have reestablished regular programming. The AAII Milwaukee and St. Louis Chapters, once close to inactivity, are once again hosting face-to-face meetings and rebuilding member awareness. The AAII Research Triangle Chapter has leaned heavily into in-person gatherings, while other chapters are experimenting with formats that blend live interaction with broader accessibility.

This experimentation increasingly points toward hybrid programming as a practical path forward. Chapters relying solely on in-person formats often encounter attendance and logistical challenges, while those offering both in-person and virtual access tend to maintain steadier engagement. This flexibility allows members to participate regardless of geography, travel schedules or personal preference, while preserving the interaction that strengthens learning.

The AAII San Diego Chapter, for example, meets in person and offers a streaming option for remote participants. Immediately after the pandemic, in-person attendance fell below 20 members. In contrast, a recent meeting drew more than 60 attendees in the room with additional members joining online, demonstrating how hybrid formats can support both local engagement and broader participation.

Collaboration between chapters is also expanding educational opportunities. Partnerships among the AAII Austin/San Antonio, New York City and Portland Chapters have strengthened programming, increased attendance and generated positive member feedback. Similar cooperation is emerging as chapters share speakers, ideas and scheduling support. Midwest chapters including the AAII Cleveland, Michigan and Columbus Chapters have collaborated on virtual programming and shared speakers to extend reach while managing limited local resources.

Recent AAII San Diego Chapter Hybrid Meeting

Several local chapters are giving members the opportunity to attend in person or virtually by Zoom. Many members attended a recent AAII San Diego Chapter meeting in person, while additional members joined the live stream.

Volunteers Strengthen Chapters and Investment Education

Despite these encouraging signs, chapter vitality remains closely tied to volunteer leadership. Venue limitations, technical skills and time commitments vary widely, and the pace of growth often reflects the capacity of members willing to step forward. Regardless of format—in person, virtual or hybrid—successful meetings require coordination, planning and technical support, making member involvement essential. Chapters grow when individuals attend regularly, help organize meetings, recruit speakers and support communications. Without that involvement, even strong interest cannot translate into sustained activity.

For AAII members, reengagement offers more than education. Local participation encourages disciplined decision-making, builds relationships and strengthens long-term investing habits. Chapter meetings create environments where investors at all levels—from novice to experienced—can ask questions, share ideas and learn from one another. Whether attending a meeting, joining a hybrid session or volunteering behind the scenes, members play a direct role in strengthening the AAII community and ensuring that knowledge is shared across generations.

To stay informed about events and opportunities, sign up for local chapter communications. Staying connected ensures timely updates, greater awareness of programming and more opportunities to participate. The long-term strength of AAII local chapters will be shaped by members who engage, contribute their time and experience, and help build local communities that support informed, disciplined investing.
