- Share your observations about what technical indicators you lean on during a bear market in the Technical Analysis Community.
- Challenge yourself to complete all five steps of the PRISM Wealth-Building Process and fill out the corresponding worksheets to get on a path to achieve your financial goals.
- Attend an AAII Local Chapter meeting this month by viewing upcoming events on the Community Master Calendar.
- Peruse the Stock Screening Community discussion board for suggestions on different stock strategies to try like the The Piotroski: High F-Score Screening Model or the O’Shaughnessy: Tiny Titans Screen.

Field Notes From the Chapters
What do seersucker, mocha and Topeka have in common?
All three words were derived from the places where they originated. Seersucker from shir o shakkar, Persian for “milk and sugar” contrasting its smooth and bumpy stripes. The recipe for your cafe mocha may have originated at Starbucks in Seattle, but its name is derived from the port city of Mukha in Yemen, an 18th century shipping hub. Topeka from the place where the indigenous Dakota tribal nation dug up potatoes. Financial lexicon has its own share of zingers like EBITDA, Z-Score, trailing stop limit and CAN SLIM. All of them are entries in AAII’s online dictionary. And you can up the ante in your own chapter Community.
Whether online or onsite, chapter speakers cover basic definitions and concepts in ways that books or websites cannot. In recent months, you could have boned up on the basics of exchange-traded funds (ETFs) (Pittsburgh, Atlanta), options (San Diego), cryptocurrency (New York), technical analysis (Cleveland), sector rotation (Houston), momentum investing (Sacramento) and alternative assets (Phoenix). When available, recordings are posted to each chapter’s Community page. And you don’t have to live near any of our 22 active chapters to take part in their Communities!
Bottom line: Chapter meetings add value to text-based resources and generic audiovisuals (e.g., YouTube) through camaraderie you can’t get anywhere else, the immediacy of “filling in the blanks” and a chance to learn directly from the best minds in the business. And, if you’re lucky, a cuppa mocha in the company of friends.
