Field Notes From the Chapters
No Robot, No Lie!
Adoption rates of new technologies are speeding up exponentially. The latest buzz thing, ChapGPT, had probably infiltrated our polity before we even knew it existed. Artificial intelligence (AI) has infiltrated our minds, our lives and even our portfolios.
But AI is error-prone at best and downright sinister at worst. If we fretted over potential “fake news” in our elections, should we not be fretting over potential “fake news” in our investment reports?
Here’s where AAII chapters provide potential guardrails against financial duplicity. Reading this article, you can’t tell for sure if I didn’t cheat with ChatGPT. (I didn’t!) But hearing me from the podium at a chapter event, you can be certain that no digital puppeteer is pulling any strings.
Nowhere else can you get as “up close and personal” with speakers you admire, ask them questions and clink glasses over a slice of pizza. Even in webinars, you can interact through a Q&A in real time. In recent weeks, you could have connected online with Paul Martin on asset allocation (San Antonio), Katie Stockton on managing risk through technical analysis (San Diego) and Kevin Carter on emerging markets ETFs (Research Triangle), among others. Chapter meetings are the real deal, in real time, in real life.
