A computer is a collection of components that influences the overall performance of the PC and your overall computing experience. The pieces of a computer, or the hardware, include processor(s), hard drives, optical drives such as DVD-ROM drives, and video and sound cards.

Knowing what each component does, and its relative impact on the performance of a computer, allows you to choose the best system for your budget.

Sure would have been nice to have some more detail on the components listed and some additional things to consider - how much memory, how large a disk, traditional hard disk vs. solid state drive, etc.
