A simple checkbook app for tracking your finances.
Moni is an attractive app for Apple devices that allows users to monitor multiple financial accounts. Moni does not link to third-party sites but stores all information in the user’s device to maximize security. Sophisticated users may find the app simplistic, but for many users Moni’s simplicity is a plus.
Moni falls into the category of a checkbook app. There are lots of checkbook applications out there, so why is Moni different? First of all, the major difference is that Moni does not connect to any third-party websites. Of course, the downside of this is that users must manually record their transactions. While that ensures tighter security, if you can’t be bothered to enter transactions in a timely manner, this may not be the app for you. You can add a note to each transaction to help you remember what it was for. If you work for yourself, this could be a lifesaver in helping to pull out your business expenses later or even if you just want to be able to sort transactions by type. Moni also allows you to tag the date of each transaction.
Users highlight its clean and user-friendly interface as one of its selling points. Edits are easy should you make any error. A spending scale highlights in easy-to-understand terms where you stand financially, from “Nice & Full” to “Red Alert!” because your balance is too low. The app is not meant to be overly complicated or attempt to do too many tasks. It’s a simple and elegant checkbook app that easily records transactions and reflects balances for multiple accounts. A pin number, which you must create, logs you in and keeps your information secure. There is no additional login required, which means that getting into the app is quick; a positive in my book.
For users who don’t want to mess with complicated charts and graphs or are reluctant to link to their bank accounts because of security concerns, Moni could be the perfect app to keep track of your transactions and balances. However, since the app and your bank accounts are not linked, you will periodically have to reconcile the balances in your app with the actual bank account balances. This could perhaps be a step too far for some users, but only time will tell. If one of your accounts is out of balance, you can input the correct balance and Moni will make an adjusting entry to reflect it. While this is okay, it means that the transactions from the bank account and the transactions from Moni for the same account will be different. For users who live outside the U.S., it takes just a couple of taps to change the currency.
With a premium subscription, users can export data to conduct further analysis than is currently available in the app. A premium subscription also allows users to back up their data to the cloud. The premium subscription varies depending on the length of time but ranges from $0.99 for one week to $12.99 for six months of premium service.
Simplicity is the strongest part of the app. If you’re ready to move from reconciling in your paper checkbook or even from using a spreadsheet, this popular app could be for you.
