More Than Half of Investors Say Their Allocation Is Most Influenced by Long-Term Strategy

by AAII Staff | August 01, 2019

Last month’s Asset Allocation Survey special question asked AAII members whether their long-term strategy, the returns of various assets classes or the yield curve is having a bigger impact on their allocation decisions. More than half of all respondents (55%) say their long-term strategy. Many of these respondents point to their focus on retirement income. About 20% say the return of various asset classes, particularly stocks. Just 8% say the yield curve is impacting their strategy.

Here is a sampling of the responses:

  • “Long-term strategy tied to our stage in life.”
  • “The return of asset classes influences my overall portfolio performance.”
  • “Yield curve, interest rates and possible changes regarding certificates of deposit (CDs) and bonds.”
  • “Long-term strategy. I can’t allow myself to be swayed by all of the short-term uncertainties.”
