The Portfolio Insights tool offers a snapshot of a given portfolio and highlights specific stocks, mutual funds and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in that portfolio. It keeps you in the know with pertinent, useful information about portfolio holdings and watchlists, easing a task that can be overwhelming in the din of investment information.
Portfolio Insights can be found through the My Portfolio page. You must first select the portfolio from the drop-down on the My Portfolio page, to the left of the Create link to see the insights. Click the Insights tab with the lightbulb icon at the far right of the My Portfolio window once your portfolio has loaded.

At the top of the Insights tab is My Portfolio at a Glance, which provides some summary statistics for the holdings in the selected portfolio. You’ll find the number of stocks, mutual funds and/or ETFs in the selected portfolio, before a breakdown of highlights by equity class. All of the respective information summarized in this section is provided on this page.
The Stock Insights area of the Insights tab lists stocks in the selected portfolio that meet the criteria of any of the 60 AAII stock screens. This insight helps you identify other stocks with characteristics similar to those already in your portfolio. From this list, you can click on a company’s ticker to view its Stock Evaluator analysis page, as well as click on the link of the individual screening strategies to see all of the companies currently passing that screen and learn about the underlying approach.

A similar insight is provided for any mutual fund or ETF held in the selected portfolio to see how they stack up against funds in the same category. In all, there are fund insights that will alert you to funds or ETFs that have performed strongly or weakly relative to their category average for multiple periods; are more or less volatile than the average of their peers; are actively managed (not an index fund) and have a senior portfolio manager that has a tenure of less than one year; and have an expense ratio that is higher or lower than the typical fund in their category.
