ADR
A security that represents securities of a foreign company and trades on the U.S. financial markets. ADRs are priced in U.S. dollars and owners avoid many costs associated with direct foreign investment. Firms offering ADRs are subject to additional rules and regulations pertaining to being listed on a U.S. stock exchange. Some ADRs are offered through direct purchase plans, which allow investors to bypass brokers.
