Dictionary
cash account
A type of brokerage account that requires an investor to have enough money to pay for all current transactions. For example, before an investor buys a stock, they must make sure that their account holds enough funds to pay for those market securities in full at the time of purchase. Cash accounts don't allow investors to borrow funds to “short the market” like margin accounts do.
