convexity

The curvature of the price-yield relationship of a bond. Because the relationship is curved rather than straight, duration is an approximation: When interest rates fall, bond prices rise by more than duration predicts; when interest rates rise, bond prices fall by less than duration predicts. Convexity works in the bondholder's favor.
