market capitalization

A measure of company size that is calculated by multiplying the number of outstanding shares by the current price of a single share. Market capitalization reflects the total market value of a firm's outstanding shares. It is common to break down stocks into four size buckets—large, mid, small and micro. Currently FINRA.org considers that a market cap of greater than $10 billion is large cap, between $2 billion and $10 billion is mid cap, between $250 million and $2 billion is small cap and below $250 million is micro cap.
