secondary market
A market in which an investor purchases an asset from another investor rather than the issuing corporation. An example of a secondary market is the New York Stock Exchange. Exchanges provide a centralized place for investors to trade securities, and they are subject to regulatory oversight. Over-the-counter markets are also secondary markets, but they are not centralized and are subject to counerparty risk.
