Dictionary
trailing stop-loss order
An order placed with a broker to buy a security that is entered with a stop parameter that creates a moving or “trailing” activation price. The stop parameter can be entered as a point value or percentage below the current bid price. As a stock’s price moves, the activation price for the order moves, allowing potentially profitable trades to run. A trailing stop may also help protect against a sharp decline in a stock.
