target allocation
Set percentages of asset classes (such as stocks, bonds, cash or alternative assets) that an investor intends to hold in their portfolio. The target allocation is based on personal goals, risk tolerance and time horizon. It serves as a guideline for balancing growth and stability. When market movements cause actual allocations to drift too far from their targets, investors use rebalancing strategies to bring assets back in line with their desired portfolio allocation.
