Biography:
Michael Masdea is a member of the Wellington Management technology research team and an equity portfolio manager, managing the global innovation and enterprise intelligence approaches on behalf of clients and drawing on research from the firm’s global industry analysts.
Masdea was previously the head of risk and investment science, which is focused on bringing scientific tools and techniques to the art of investing across the investment platform. Prior to that, he was the associate director of global industry research. Before that, he served as a global industry analyst covering the global semiconductor, semiconductor capital equipment, distribution and component sectors. Prior to joining Wellington Management in 2008, he was a managing director and the global head of semiconductor research at Credit Suisse (1999–2008). Before that, he held research positions with Volpe, Brown, Whelan & Co. (1999) and Robertson Stephens (1998–1999), as well as structured equity derivative products for Bear Stearns’ private client services department (1997–1998). Prior to working in the financial markets, he worked in electronic materials research at Illinois Tool Works Inc. (1994).
Masdea holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in materials science and engineering through a joint bachelor’s/master’s program (1997) from Northwestern University’s McCormick School of Engineering, where he received the school’s highest honors.
