Is Value Investing Dead?
Discussed by:
Jared Kizer, CFA
Chief Investment Officer, Buckingham Strategic Wealth and the BAM Alliance
Historically, value stocks—stocks that trade at low prices relative to fundamentals—have generated higher returns than growth stocks, but this relationship did not hold in the U.S. market in the 2010s. By one popular measure, U.S. value stocks underperformed growth stocks by 2.6% per year from 2010–2019, compared to 4.5% per year outperformance over the full history of the U.S. market. This result occurring over such a long period of time has caused some investors to ask whether the so-called "value premium" is gone. In this talk, Jared Kizer examines the recent performance of value investing and seeks to provide perspective on whether the value premium still exists.
