In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we delve into two captivating themes in the AAII Community: feasting on diversity and showing gratitude through charitable giving.
As crisp autumn leaves fall and the savory aroma of roasted turkey beckons, November heralds a time of reflection, gratitude and community. This month, in the spirit of Thanksgiving, we delve into two captivating themes in the AAII Community.
In our Allocation Strategies Community, our investments mimic the diverse dishes at a Thanksgiving feast. Just as every dish adds unique flavor, diversifying our assets allows us to serve up stability along with the potential for growth. We invite you to share your thoughts:
Meanwhile, in the Tax Strategies Community, the essence of giving is on display. Thanksgiving is about both expressing our gratitude and sharing our abundance. As the year concludes, many of us think of charitable endeavors.
If you’ve yet to experience the enriching conversations in the AAII Community, now’s your chance. If I took fashion advice from TikTok, I’d be levering my septuagenarian body into a $78 spandex bike unitard. If I took investing advice from TikTok, I might be siphoning my savings into fantasy football and tapping my home equity to capture the latest cryptocurrency craze.
“FinTok” and other social media platforms are fertile grounds for bad investing advice, ranging from the deliberately deceptive to the unintentionally risible. And there is no lack of takers. Forbes Magazine reported that, in 2021, the #personalfinance hashtag drew 4.2 billion views and #investing drew 2.5 billion.
Based on AAII’s 2023 member survey, 89% of our members do NOT use TikTok. Luckily, they have a choice of 24 chapters that have been hosting webinars, in-person events or informal SIG meetings.
Sadly, only 10% of those surveyed attended a chapter meeting, either online or in person, within the past 12 months. We hope that the growing library of chapter recordings on AAII’s Community may inspire more of you to join in.
I promise you’ll never catch me in a bike unitard, even if on a bike. But we can definitely catch up at one of those chapter meetings. You could call that, uh, expandexing our horizons?
