ValuEngine is a subscription website that provides stock valuation services for individual ($14.95/month) and professional ($99.95/month) investors.
Once you log in to the website, type the stock’s ticker in the search box and click “go.” A valuation analysis appears that includes ValuEngine’s recommendation on the stock along with the reasons. Each stock is given an Engine Rating. Stock recommendations are based on a proprietary ValuEngine one-year forecast return model. A stock can be rated strong buy, buy, hold, sell or strong sell. The website also provides Smart Ratings, which displays how attractive the investment might be to different types of investors. For example, the same stock could be attractive to day traders, neutral to conservative investors and less attractive to classic value investors. There is also a list of over 20 valuation metrics, including volatility, expected earnings per share, valuation rank and more. Stocks are given a rank from 1 to 100 for each metric; generally the higher the ranking, the more positive the influence a particular measure has on the overall attractiveness of a stock.
ValuEngine offers several different models for valuation. The first is the stock valuation model, which the site describes thusly: “Fundamental variables such as a company’s trailing 12-month earnings per share (EPS), the analyst consensus estimate of the company’s future 12-month EPS, and the 30-year Treasury yield are all used to create a more accurate reflection of the company’s fair value.” There are 11 additional firm-specific variables that are used in the stock valuation model. The stock forecast model uses a distinct forecasting model for six forecast time horizons and for every industry, capturing several important tendencies that stock prices exhibit. The portfolio forecast model uses individual projected stock returns in a user’s portfolio, then calculates the most likely returns from thousands of simulated outcomes. The portfolio advisor model allows users to choose a portfolio objective: maximize the chance of meeting or exceeding an investment target, minimize the chance of loss, or both. The results of the simulation identify and display the most favorable stock allocation for your portfolio.
ValuEngine provides a wide range of services for individual investors and is an excellent source for stock valuation. It was chosen as Editor’s Choice because of its in-depth analysis and innovative valuation techniques that are not available at other sites.
